I cannot reproduce this.
src/core/textrenderer/qgsfontmanager.cpp supports 1549 fonts, adding
dependencies for all is not going to happen.
It seems that the GitHub raw URLs changed, this one works:
https://github.com/google/fonts/raw/refs/heads/main/ofl/opensans/OpenSans%5Bwdth,wght%5D.ttf
I suggest you report this issue upstream if you want this to get addressed.
