Adding an entry into a hash lookup table like
domain.com REJECT
returns a value if you enter 'postmap -q domain.com helo_access'
but will not return a value on a subdomain inquiry even if the setting
is enabled according to postconf:
postconf | grep subdomain
parent_domain_matches_subdomains =
debug_peer_list,fast_flush_domains,mynetworks,permit_mx_backup_networks,qmqpd_authorized_clients,relay_domains,smtpd_access_maps

According to the postmap manpage, the -q <key> searches for the
given key. It has nothing to do with parent_domain_matches_subdomains
parameter.
Closing this bug report, as it's not a bug but an expected
behavior.
