I recently coded a network testing script that implements some of the tasks 
commonly associated to testing network connectivity, since my intention is 
to have this be useful for other users and not rot in my HD I'm attaching 
it to this bug report in case you find this useful for the debian-goodies 
package. If so, I will add a proper manpage for the script :-)
