Package: gir1.2-freedesktop
Version: 1.82.0-4
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

Recently upgraded from bookworm to sid. As usual I ran deborphan after
and removed the items it suggested.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

System-config-printer was removed. Reinstalling it brought back
gir1.2-freedesktop. As a test I did an apt remove of that and it
again wanted to remove system-config-printer and a bunch of gir1.2
   libraries.

On bookworm, apt rdepends gir1.2-freedesktop reports a long list of
gir1.2 libraries. On sid, it reports only:

   gir1.2-freedesktop
   Reverse Depends:
        Depends: gir1.2-freedesktop-dev (= 1.82.0-4)
        Depends: libgirepository1.0-dev (= 1.82.0-4)
        Depends: awesome
        Depends: gnome-shell

It would seem that some dependencies must be wrong.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

On my bookworm systems deborphan does not report gir1.2-freedesktop
   as unused.

This is deborphan bug <https://bugs.debian.org/1065310>. In trixie/sid,
system-config-printer does not explicitly depend on gir1.2-freedesktop,
but it does depend on virtual packages that only gir1.2-freedesktop
Provides.

deborphan incorrectly wanting to remove gir1.2-freedesktop is not a bug
in gir1.2-freedesktop.

Note that deborphan has been removed from sid, partly because of that
bug, and will not be in trixie.
