There's a large directory in the binary package:
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/jupyterlab/staging/build
which just contains build artefacts that are not needed in the final
package.
There is a second similar build artefact directory:
/usr/share/jupyter/lab/staging
(The directory /usr/share/jupyter/lab/static/ contains many more files
than the upstream distribution with very different names, but
presumably that's because the Debian package includes .js.map files
and for some reason has not renamed the files in the way upstream
does.)
