While researching for bug #1087689 I noticed that
``--enable-deprecated`` was added to ``debian/rules`` 7 years ago.
Looking into the upstream code and I see the references to DEPRECATED
all point to commits from 2013 and 2015. So if it was deprecated
~10 years ago, would it be a good idea to actually drop it?
