Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0.2-3
Severity: important
When trying to start Firefox on a fresh sarge with a
fresh user (empty homedir), I get this problem:
(Got the same when I tried stracing and launching firefox-bin
directly.)
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: XDM authorization key matches an existing client!
(firefox-bin:7221): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
If I first start a normal Mozilla browser and close it
and then start firefox, the first step works, but I get
this error:
*** loading the extensions datasource
*** loading the extensions datasource
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/firefox-bin: relocation error:
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/firefox-bin: undefined symbol:
NS_NewUnionEnumerator
So my error messages seems to be close to this bug:
Debian Bug report logs - #292931
mozilla-firefox: Firefox can't start - relocation error
When I now start Firefox again, it works.
So the workaround is: Start normal Mozilla, end it and
start Firefox twice, then it works the second time.
Another quick and dirty fix is to take "xhost +", start
Firefox and then take "xhost -". From then on it works.
So this probably only applies to new/fresh users. My user
is a NIS user if that has anything relevance.
Yours,
Filip

Version: 115.12.0esr-1+rm
src:iceweasel has been superseded by src:firefox-esr in version
45.0esr-1 in March 2016. Transitional packages to ease upgrades were
provided in the wheezy, jessie, stretch and buster releases. The
transitional packages have been removed finally before the bullseye
release in August 2021.
After regular security support for buster ended in August 2022 and LTS
support ended in June 2024, I'm closing the remaining bug reports now.
