Dear Maintainer,
Despite setting preferences that browsing and search history should be
cleared upon exiting Iceweasel, it seems that the history of "keyword"
searches is still being saved somewhere on disk.
Steps to reproduce:
* Start Iceweasel with a fresh profile, no addons.
* Go to Preferences > Privacy.
Select "Use custom settings for history".
Check "Clear history when Iceweasel closes".
(Note that by default, this includes "Browsing and Download
History", "Active Logins", "Form and Search History", "Cookies",
and "Cache".)
* Define a search keyword:
- Go to https://startpage.com
- Right-click the text input field.
- Select "Add a Keyword for this Search".
- Enter "sp" as the keyword and click Save.
* Perform a search:
- Type "sp fnord" in the URL bar and press Enter.
* Exit Iceweasel and start it again.
* Type "sp" in the URL bar (without pressing Enter.)
Result: the popup suggestion below the URL bar appears as
fnord - StartPage Web Search
https://startpage.com/do/search
indicating that information about the previous search (namely, the
title of the results page, which includes the search terms) is somehow
remembered after exiting the browser.
It should go without saying that this is worrisome for users who are
using a shared system and expecting the "clear history" feature to
work as advertised.

Version: 115.12.0esr-1+rm
src:iceweasel has been superseded by src:firefox-esr in version
45.0esr-1 in March 2016. Transitional packages to ease upgrades were
provided in the wheezy, jessie, stretch and buster releases. The
transitional packages have been removed finally before the bullseye
release in August 2021.
After regular security support for buster ended in August 2022 and LTS
support ended in June 2024, I'm closing the remaining bug reports now.
