Package: iceweasel
Version: 24.3.0esr-1
Severity: important
Dear Maintainer,
On a laptop with Intel (Ivy Bridge) integrated graphics and XFCE I get
tearing when vertical scrolling web pages in Iceweasel. Searching the
web I came across:
https://blogs.fsfe.org/the_unconventional/2013/07/04/fixing-iceweasels-tearing-and-rendering-problems/
Which suggests that xrender is to blame, and that iceweasel should be
(should have been) configured to use OpenGL rendering instead. The
suggestions there do seem to fix the tearing.
Shouldn't OpenGL rendering be the default? Or is there some setting in
xrender that could be changed to eliminate tearing?
New users of iceweasel shouldn't be expected to manually
fiddle around with rendering config options to get rid of tearing, it
should just work.

Version: 115.12.0esr-1+rm
src:iceweasel has been superseded by src:firefox-esr in version
45.0esr-1 in March 2016. Transitional packages to ease upgrades were
provided in the wheezy, jessie, stretch and buster releases. The
transitional packages have been removed finally before the bullseye
release in August 2021.
After regular security support for buster ended in August 2022 and LTS
support ended in June 2024, I'm closing the remaining bug reports now.
Andreas
