Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.26.1-3
Severity: normal
Dear Maintainer,
with the last gnome-shell upgrade I have what seem random X crash and then
appear the GDM interface redy for login. This cause the loss of all data I
was working on and I haven't save.
I have found that the memory used by gnome-shell and firefox-esr increase
until there is buffer free and where there is no more Linux kill all X
processes.
I used the command
$ ps -eo pmem,pcpu,rss,vsize,args --sort=-%mem | head -n 15
to see what processes use more memory and see the memory usage increase
during time, and "free" command to see how much buffer free there are.
Now with wayland you cannot anymore restart gnome-shell (Alt-F2 + r) and so
you cannot solve the problem with a workaround. I think that as an extreme
workaround you can logout and then login, but I don't have try it.
I have installed the following gnome extensions:
* Application menu
* Openweather
* Places status indicator
* Random walls
* Removable driver menu
* Timer
I have make some tests on another machine with Debian testing and
gnome-shell not upgraded and these problems are not present.
Ciao
Davide
