Package: packagesearch
Severity: minor
Dear Maintainer,
The "similar packages" section of the package page has a list of other packages.
That list is very unhelpful in some cases. For example, the following packages
are listed as similar to the "at" package:
golang-github-canonical-go-dqlite-dev
golang-github-la5nta-wl2k-go-dev
golang-github-apptainer-container-key-client-dev
golang-github-cowsql-go-cowsql-dev
golang-github-dchest-cssmin-dev
golang-github-mostynb-go-grpc-compression-dev
golang-github-mmarkdown-mmark-dev
golang-github-sigstore-sigstore-go-dev
golang-github-smallstep-truststore-dev
golang-github-muesli-mango-dev
golang-github-bep-godartsass-dev
The only thing that seems related is that the English word "at" is in a similar
semantic field as the English word "go".
It would be nice if the "similar packages" section was a bit more useful. I
think the implementation is split between "Search.pm" and "parse-packages" but
I have not specific suggestion on how to improve it.
https://salsa.debian.org/webmaster-team/packages/-/blob/master/lib/Packages/Search.pm#L258
https://salsa.debian.org/webmaster-team/packages/-/blob/master/bin/parse-packages#L97
I have no installed packagesearch myself.
This report is only based on my use of https://packages.debian.org/
and the code at https://salsa.debian.org/webmaster-team/packages/

Hi Adrien,
the software "packagesearch" has nothing to do with the web-based
search you are referring to.
I would suggest to address your report to [email protected]
They can probably guide you, on where to address your bug to.
Regards
Ben
