Package: phonon
Version: 4:4.12.0-6

Dear maintainers,
dear Aurélien,

today I installed updates on my forky system which contain phonon updates:

$ apt update
$ apt dist-upgrade
Upgrading:
  gdb                      libphonon4qt6-4t64  phonon4qt6
  libgc1                   libpython3-stdlib   python3
  libnetfilter-conntrack3  libqalculate-data   python3-minimal
  libphonon-l10n           libqalculate23

Not upgrading:
  libphonon4qt5-4t64

Summary: ...

As a result, unluckily now phonon4qt6 ist in install partially and in parallel
to phonon4qt5:

root@pebbles:~# dpkg -l | grep phonon

Further an old package is kept back:

$ apt dist-upgrade
  Not upgrading:
  libphonon4qt5-4t64

Summary:
  Upgrading: 0, Installing: 0, Removing: 0, Not Upgrading: 1
$ apt --dry-run install libphonon4qt5-4t64
Upgrading:
  libphonon4qt5-4t64

REMOVING:
  phonon4qt5settings

Summary:
  Upgrading: 1, Installing: 0, Removing: 1, Not Upgrading: 0
Remv phonon4qt5settings [4:4.12.0-5+b1]
Inst libphonon4qt5-4t64 [4:4.12.0-5+b1] (4:4.12.0-6 Debian:testing [amd64])
Conf libphonon4qt5-4t64 (4:4.12.0-6 Debian:testing [amd64])

I think phonon4qt5settings is need further on and there is no
phonon4qt6settings in the repo. Also there is, e.g., no
phonon4qt6-backend-gstreamer:

What can/should I do? Should I deinstall the old version (and the many
dependencies)?

$ apt --dry-run remove libphonon4qt5-4t64

The message #20 above seems to be off topic.

Since phonon4qt<X>-backend-gstreamer seems to be deprecated, I did the
following:

$ apt-mark manual gstreamer1.0-plugins-*
$ apt remove --purge phonon4qt5-backend-gstreamer
$ apt autoremove --purge

This also removes the old libphonon4qt5-4t64 and also gstreamer1.0-alsa,
gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio. The latter two packages seem not to be necessary,
probably as there is gstreamer1.0-pipewire .

However, so far the cleanup needs manual interception which may be by
design/former manual package installations.

Since this way the problem is solved now., I close the thread.
