Severity: wishlist

Hello,

so far I used the old init.d-script that used to be included in /usr/share/doc/ifupdown. I read the notice of using ifup/ifdown instead and ingnored it, because example scripts were missing or just consisted in ideas/hints. There should be a usable example included in the package.

I developed my own scripts. The idea is to use user-defined chains for each interface and IN/OUT-direction. The standard-chains INPUT and OUTPUT dispatch to the per-device-chains. The scripts fit the needs of servers, workstations, notebooks that do not need natting or forwarding. The scripts are usable for dynamic device-changes as often used with wireless-adapters.

So far I commented the scripts and described the ideas in German for our University:
http://www.rrzn.uni-hannover.de/fw_debian.html
But you do not need to understand German to understand the simple scripts ...

If you like the idea and want to include the scripts in /usr/share/doc/ifupdown/example, please contact me by mail. I would be delighted to translate the comments and write a description in English.

Thanks for the iptables-Package,
Hergen Harnisch
