Package: gv
Version: 1:3.5.8-26
Severity: normal

I'm also encountering the same problem as cited in bug #146388, in
that gv fails to produce useful output when antialiasing is on. I
think that bug might actually in gs, in the x11alpha device, and not in
gv; using the x11 device cured the problem for me.

Actually, however, my report is not in respect to that bug but
concerns another which I found while attempting to work around the
aforementioned.

I'm pretty sure that the problems with antialiasing only occur on
monochrome displays[*], so I added the following to my ~/.Xresources
file:

! Antialias code breaks on monochrome displays
#if PLANES == 1
GV.antialias:                           false
#endif

If I then run xrdb -load ~/.Xresources, the X server ends up having
.antialias set appropriately. Unfortunately, gv appears to completely
ignore the resources provided by the display. I must run

       gv -ad ~/.Xresources  foo.ps

to have it honour those settings. I alsso tried

        gv -xrm 'GV.antialias: false'  foo.ps

and although it accepts the -xrm option without complaint, it does not
have the expected effect of turning off antialiasing. This appears to
be true for various other resources I tried.

[*] Why would anyone even try to antialias on a monochrome display?
