Package: ldso
Version: 1.9.11-5

I tried to upgrade to libc6_2.1.2-6 and ldso_1.9.11-5. apt-get does it fine. Then the next time I use dselect, it reports some conflict and proposes to deinstall libc6 (and everything depending on it). Not very helpful. The culprit seems to be that ldso_1.9.11-5 claims to replace libc6:

# dpkg -I deb/ldso_1.9.11-5.deb

Description: The Linux dynamic linker, library and utilities.
The dynamic linker provides the user-level support for loading and
linking DLL and ELF shared libraries. It is required by any program
  that uses shared libraries.
  .
WARNING: Do NOT downgrade this package to version 1.8.x or earlier.
Doing so may leave your system in an unusable state.

Older versions of ldso didn't claim to replace libc6. I removed the libc6 from Replaces and everything works like a charm. I'm new at this, so I may have gotten it wrong...

Hi,

This report appears to have resulted from a combination of a packaging
quirk during a transition and user inexperience... closing.
