I just did an aptitude update/upgrade of an etch system. It resulted in deleting ntp, ntp-simple, and ntp-server, leaving me without a functioning ntp daemon.

  As noted earlier, this is the expected behavior of autoremoval on
upgrade when packages disappear and you ask for an aggressive upgrade.
