I was trying to compile a new kernel with

make-kpkg --append-to-version=-devel --revision=2.6.16-devel-1 \
          --config menuconfig configure buildpackage

And it try to create packages of

            kernel-*-2.6.16-devel_...
instead of
            linux-*-2.6.16-devel_..."
