If msttcorefonts is the onlt scalable font package installed (wich IMHO is a
normal case), and /var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType
directory is listed first in X font configuration (which IMHO is also a
normal case), most older X apps (such as xmessage, xfontsel, ...) become
to use comic sans ms bold as default font, which looks very ugly.
This happens because
-microsoft-comic sans ms-bold-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1
becomes alphabetically first iso8859-1 X font.
This may be workarounded by providing aliases for a better looking font
(e.g. Arial) that will preceed comic sans ms. For example, Arial font
may be registered in defoma twice, first normally and second with
Foundry set to '000' (to avoid filename clash, a different-named may be
created for each ttf file that is aliased this way).
