Package: iptables
Version: 1.2.11-10
Severity: normal
Probably this bug is the same as #350216, but I am not sure, that's why I
open a new bug.
I noticed a problem when I tried to build my firewall. Whenever I tried
to use the string match in iptables I get an error message:
# iptables -N test
# iptables -A test -m string --string test
iptables: No chain/target/match by that name
In this case the chain definitely exists. And since I do not have to
specify a target that could not be the problem, either.
Also the command "iptables -m string --help" lists the string match
options below the others, so the match is ok, too.
I am confused here, iptables tells me that either the chain, target or
match is invalid or does not exist. But at the same time my tests
show that the chain, target and match should be ok.
Any ideas what's wrong with my command?

retitle 395178 [noop] iptables -m string --string abcd failes

Your kernel did not ship with support for the string match and it's not
likely that you added support.
You might be able to find a patch for it in patch-o-matic-ng[1], but the kernel
is a bit dated.
