History:

After acquiring this scanner some time ago, I had compiled iscan
on my own and tried to get it to run, with mixed success:
iscan would run but scanimage not.

Some time later, I got it working under sarge and was happy.

Now, after an upgrade to etch, it doesn't work any more.
I removed my self-compiled stuff from /usr/local but it didn't help.

Yes there was an API & ABI change at some point in the iscan
development.

Yes, that would be nice, but you need a mean to check the version of
the proprietary lib you're loading to do that, and there's nothing
like that in the lib.
