Package: nvidia-kernel-source
Version: 1.0.8756-2
Severity: important

Since the latest nvidia update (version 1.0.8756), I cannot get
module-assistant to build nvidia-kernel-1.0.8756 from
nvidia-kernel-source. I obtain the following message:

Extracting the package tarball, /usr/src/nvidia-kernel-source.tar.gz,
please wait...
Target package file
/usr/src/nvidia-kernel-2.6.14-2-686_1.0.8178-3+2.6.14-7_i386.deb already
exists, not rebuilding!
Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at
/usr/share/perl5/Text/WrapI18N.pm line 33.
(however, you could use the -f switch to ignore it)
Version 1.0.8178-3+2.6.14-7 of nvidia-kernel-2.6.14-2-686 already
installed, skipping.

However, the version of nvidia-kernel-source installed is 1.0.8756-2, so
I don't understand why it won't build the right version of the kernel
module.

Now I might have attributed the bug to the wrong package, but since the
problem started since nvidia-kernel-source went to version 1.0.8756, I deemed it
to be the culprit. I already had the same problem with version
1.0.8756-1.

I hope you can solve the problem, or at least indicate how I can get
module-assistant to build the right version. Thank you in advance.

Christophe Grandsire.

Selon Philippe Cloutier :

Hi Christophe,
could you send us an update about this problem?

Hi Philippe,

Sorry for not giving any update in such a long time. Life has ways of keeping me away from my personal computer for long periods of time, and I just forgot about this bug report I had made.

Since that time, I have had quite a few updates of Debian, including the kernel and Xorg, and now module-assistant compiles and installs the nvidia-kernel module correctly. That was however only two weeks ago, which tells you for how long I have been unable to correctly update my Debian distribution and try module-assistant again (by lack of time only).

In any case, the bug I reported seems to have disappeared. Sorry for my absence of reaction that left the bug open for so long.

Cheers,

Thanks Christophe.
Since it's not clear what package had the bug and which version fixed it, I'm closing this bug without version. If anyone can reproduce the bug in any current Debian release, feel free to reopen.
