I have tested pymacs using piuparts, upgrading from sarge to etch, and
to sid, then purging. The operation worked, as far as pymacs is
concerned (there is a known issue with python-central[1] which causes
piuparts to report a failure, but your problem seems to be solved.
I think what you reported was related to a bug in the version of
python-central which was installed at the time you upgraded pymacs,
which is now fixed. Since the upgrade from sarge to etch works, I am
closing this bug report.
