As stated by upstream (in this case, ALSA) in the forwarded bug report, https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=812, this problem (indeed triggerred by an issue with the XMMS plug-in) will nevertheless be resolved in alsa-lib 1.0.8. Cheers, Christopher Martin
