Package: gnumeric Version: 1.4.1-1 Severity: normal When upgrading gnumeric (I'm tracking unstable) I didn't notice that an instance of gnumeric was running in the background, and actually had some unsaved changes.
After the upgrade, it was impossible to save the changed worksheet, as gnumeric tried to access some external resource file, which was not available any more. I decided that the changes were minor and could be redone easily. So I closed gnumeric. Unfortunately, I only noticed afterwards that the data file was completely empty (0 bytes), so the unsuccessful attempt to save the file probably destroyed the old version. While it's probably very unwise to upgrade a running application, most linux programs handle this case very well, as old versions of binaries and libraries are kept open and therefore survive the removal of the directory links, until the last instance of the program terminates. I'm unsure about the right severity of this bug. It could be classified higher (as it causes data loss), but I think the bug gets triggered quite rarely, so I rated it as 'normal'.
