I installed it about a week ago on disk and then moved it to nfs. I believe I saw the same error when running from disk, I can check that if you think it is important. sudo works, so I don't think the kernel ignores set*id bits on that filesystem. I don't see the message with the same version of screen on i386. The i386 machine is running from disk and was installed a long time ago.
