I'm sorry, but snort-mysql is used both in a distributed environment (sensor and database run in different systems) and in centralised environments (both are in the same system). I do not intend to force people to use a given MySQL (server) version, more so when that version is not in Debian, the version mysql-server in Debian's unstable is currently at 4.0.23-3. The 4.1.7-2 packages are only available in experimental.
Whenever mysql-server 4.1.7 ships in Debian unstable I will upgrade the Snort package to use the latest libmysqlclient libraries, no sooner.
