Ok, I checked xsane 0.97-1 and the package is built as
expected. Besides, if such a problem existed, you wouldn't be the only
one to report it, and it would've been caught pretty fast...

This looks like a local problem; are you tracking unstable, testing,
or did you recently upgrade from a woody system ?
