Package: dpatch
Version: 2.0.14
Severity: wishlist

While I understand that dpatch allows for functionality far beyond that
of standard patches, both dpatch-edit-patch and dpatch-convert-diffgz
work exclusively with standard patches.

This got me to thinking that dpatch really could natively support
standard patch files (.patch instead of .dpatch) in addition to the
custom dpatch files currently supported.

Some advantages of this would be that:

   - .patch files could simply be dropped in place, without
necessitating a conversion to the .dpatch format

   - dpatch-edit-patch and dpatch-convert-diffgz could be used for
editing patches outside of the dpatch framework (such as in cdbs's
     simple-patchsys)

   - users could effortlessly migrate from other frameworks (such as
simple-patchsys) to dpatch (and back) with minimal effort
