Going from old-stable to unstable is simply not going to be possible,
due to a mess of conflicting dependencies in libc, sysvinit, and
e2fsprogs. There's not a whole lot I can really do about this, and
I'm going to end up closing this bug and the other one). The only
reason why I haven't was that I was trying to find time to figure out
the exact details of the what the whole mess was, just to document it.
The reason for all of the dependencies was to fix one incompatibility
or another between sysvinit, the initial ram disks, etc. I don't
remember all of them, but they were all added for a reason.
