Package: rxvt-unicode Version: 5.6-1 Severity: normal Hi,
My /etc/environment contains: ---- LANGUAGE="nl_BE:nl:en_GB:en" [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---- meaning, I prefer to be having unicode output. I recently switched to using rxvt-unicode as my preferred x-terminal-emulator; however, I found that something somewhere along the line between reading /etc/environment and starting the shell is parsing my $LANG and changing it: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo $LANG [EMAIL PROTECTED] If I start xterm rather than urxvt or x-terminal-emulator, the environment variable does correctly contain UTF-8 as the encoding. Having a terminal emulator that does support unicode but disables it, is pretty silly IMHO. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: powerpc (ppc) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.13.2 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages rxvt-unicode depends on: ii base-passwd 3.5.10 Debian base system master password ii libc6 2.3.5-6 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libfontconfig1 2.3.2-1 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.1.10-1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.0.1-8 GCC support library ii libx11-6 6.8.2.dfsg.1-7 X Window System protocol client li ii libxft2 2.1.7-1 FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxrender1 1:0.9.0-2 X Rendering Extension client libra ii ncurses-base 5.4-9 Descriptions of common terminal ty ii xlibs 6.8.2.dfsg.1-7 X Window System client libraries m ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-4 compression library - runtime rxvt-unicode recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
