Package: rxvt-unicode
Version: 5.6-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

My /etc/environment contains:

----
LANGUAGE="nl_BE:nl:en_GB:en"

[EMAIL PROTECTED]
----

meaning, I prefer to be having unicode output. I recently switched to
using rxvt-unicode as my preferred x-terminal-emulator; however, I found
that something somewhere along the line between reading /etc/environment
and starting the shell is parsing my $LANG and changing it:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo $LANG
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

If I start xterm rather than urxvt or x-terminal-emulator, the
environment variable does correctly contain UTF-8 as the encoding.

Having a terminal emulator that does support unicode but disables it, is
pretty silly IMHO.
