Hilmar, thank you for your follow-up; I was unable to do so when Thomas responded. The debconf questions at issue were low-priority ones, but the real matter was how this recommendation could be the sole reason that Common Lisp is installed on a typical system with TeX. I've nothing against xindy nor GNU CLISP, but given that the former is a fairly specialized tool, and is relatively unique in requiring the latter, I felt a recommendation overstated its desirability for most users.
