I am definitely having the problem as well. I am running debian unstable with
the 295.33 nvidia drivers and libcairo 1.12.0-2.1. The problem was most
visible in Iceweasel (i am using KDE and i guess that this is one of the few
GTK applications i'm using). When loading some sites (like 9gag for example)
Iceweasel was unbearably slow. I dowloaded the source for the package and
found out that the server side gradients patch was missing. Rebuilding the
package with this patch seems to have solved my problem.

I believe that the problem is with NVidia. The original problem at least was
with them and the patch used to solve the problem. Their latest driver has
also been very slow with anything OPengl related and had problems with flash
which is why i downgraded to an earlier version. I guess things are not
currently very good for nvidia users in Linux.

Best regards,
Alexander Godumov
