I use xfce4/xfwm4) I'm pretty sure this is the same bug. xfwm4 was patched to stop the shrinking problem described originally in 632403, but it still works badly with GTK3 geometry widgets, with the effect you're describing, and also not unmiaximizing correctly. For now roxterm-gtk2 is the most practical way to avoid this problem, but you can also run other window managers, such as compiz, in xfce4. It's because of this bug that I'm continuing to maintain GTK2 builds of roxterm.
