Yes, I knew that.  In fact I have maintained a private parallel package
for some time that did exactly the same thing as yours to deal with it,
that is a divert to parallel.moreutils.  But mine behaved as GNU by
default and that is why I was surprised.

I see.  I mistakenly thought this dual personality was a Debian
invention.  As it is it's clearly an upstream bug, they should document
it in the manpage or at least in the README.
