The problem is libdes, it previously moved location due to multiarch, and I adjusted the upstream makefile for that, but now it seems to have disappeared completely unless I'm being dense. If, during the build process, the upstream makefile reports "NO DES", then that is the problem manifesting. Note that this also applies to the current version in the archive. The binaries will have built correctly but if rebuilt they will lose DES support. I haven't yet figured out the implications of missing libdes, or if has just been subsumed into another library, or it is there and I am blind.
