retitle 671904 flashplugin-nonfree: fails to fail when download fails tags 671904 wontfix stop
Hi Joey, I'm tagging this bug "wontfix" because I'm not (yet) convinced that this would be an improvement. Some people see flashplugin-nonfree as a package of update-flashplugin-nonfree. Other people see it as a package of the Adobe Flash Player. It is difficult to choose whether or not dpkg should fail when installing/upgrading the Adobe Flash Player fails. I fear a flood of "grave" bugs against flashplugin-nonfree just for harmless temporary network problems. So I prefer to keep flashplugin-nonfree how it works now : If postinst fails to install the Adobe Flash Player then the user is to use update-flashplugin-nonfree at a later time. Also, note that postinst uses the --fast option, so it is possible that postinst fails where update-flashplugin-nonfree (without --fast option) succeeds. My point is that there is some history of resolved bugs to keep in mind before changing flashplugin-nonfree again, to avoid reopening old resolved bugs. In my experience flashplugin-nonfree is not a perfect package but rather a compromise of choices made to balance between convenience for the user and a low number of incoming bug reports.
