Package: debian-handbook Version: 6.0+20120509 Severity: minor Hi Raphaƫl, I've just completed chapter 5 and here's my list of proposed modifications, grouped by relevant section.
Intro ----- | while the latter contain the program source code Since packages may contain works that are not programs, I would rephrase the sentence in more general terms, maybe by dropping the word "program" entirely: + while the latter contain the source code Section 5.1. Structure of a Binary Package ------------------------------------------ | to determine if it is possible to install or | uninstall the programs inside For generality's sake, I would s/the programs inside/the content of the package/ Section 5.2.1.1. Dependencies: the Depends Field ------------------------------------------------ | that the program to be installed depends on. Again, for generality's sake, I would s/program/package/ Section 5.2.1.2. Conflicts: the Conflicts field ----------------------------------------------- | it will "replace" the installed packages Typo? s/packages/package/ Section 5.3.1. Format --------------------- | They allow creation of binary packages (.deb files described above) for | the program(s) from their source code, written in a programming language. As usual, I would suggest a more general phrasing, as in: + They allow creation of binary packages (.deb files described above) for + the packaged works from the corresponding source code. | Just as frequently, the documentation is provided in a dedicated | package: the user may install it independently from the software, I would s/software/program/ since the term "software" may be used in the more broad sense of "information that may be automatically processed": this meaning includes both programs and documentation, as well as many other types of works. | The .orig.tar.gz is an archive containing the program source code | as provided by the original developer. Again, for generality's sake, I would drop the word "program" from this sentence. | Developers are asked to not modify this archive I am not sure about this: maybe s/Developers/Debian maintainers/ ? Section 5.5. Coexistence with Other Packaging Systems ----------------------------------------------------- | (they are a simple tar.gz archive). Since the subject is plural, I would rephrase this sentence as: + (they are simple tar.gz archives). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
