Package: photon Version: 0.4.6-3 Severity: normal First of all big thanks this tool to both upstream and the maintainer. It is one of the tools, that just works without having to specify megabytes of configuration. Unfortunately I hit an aspect that doesn't just work.
Consider the following two images obtained from a Canon camera. imagemagick's identify: original/img_9734.jpg JPEG 4368x2912 4368x2912+0+0 8-bit DirectClass 4.855MB 0.000u 0:00.000 original/img_9735.jpg JPEG 4368x2912 4368x2912+0+0 8-bit DirectClass 4.741MB 0.000u 0:00.000 exiftool | grep 'Orientation\|File Name': File Name : img_9734.jpg Orientation : Horizontal (normal) Camera Orientation : Horizontal (normal) File Name : img_9735.jpg Orientation : Rotate 270 CW Camera Orientation : Rotate 270 CW Now the second image is correctly displayed as landscape by geeqie, but photon determines the aspect ration based on the resolution and wrongly thinks that this image was seascape. The gimp scaler then considers the image as landscape again, but shrinks it to the requested seascape reduced resolution. The last step effectively breaks the aspect ratio of the scaled images.
