This bug has been there for a very long time. It used to happen with
nautilus, and some other GNOME programs as well.
I just tested it, and nautilus is behaving fine regarding this, but
evolution isn't. The only part of GNOME that still misbehaves is
gnome-settings-daemon, and I think that evolution's bug might be related to
g-s-d's
