Package: debian-reference-en Version: 1.08-4 Severity: wishlist The discussion of network setup doesn't explain how to setup the FQDN. The only explanation of where it comes from is in 10.4 (DNS):
"To see what domain name is associated with the local host, use the hostname --fqdn command. This prints out the first fully qualified domain name that the resolver finds for the local hostname. [57]" I also looked in the man pages without much luck. I finally got a FQDN by putting an entry in /etc/hosts for my IP address with a FQDN. I realize the specifics may depend on the setup (e.g., DHCP ordinarily provides one). Maybe it usually comes with bringing the network up; I'm in a highly retarded network environment. And some machines have several FQDN's. Even people without a NIC probably want a FQDN since, as I discovered, one gets lots of warning messages without one. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (50, 'unstable'), (40, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.4.27adnvcd Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages debian-reference-en depends on: ii debian-reference-common 1.08-4 Debian system administration guide debian-reference-en recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
