Package: cconv
Version: 0.6.2
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch
Cconv's package description has several problems; for instance it
spells the word "characters" in three different ways.

Problem one: Simplified and Traditional Chinese should be capitalised.
Problem two: there's no such thing as Simplified-hyphen-Traditional
Chinese. It might be intended as an n-dash, saying that cconv is a
Simplified-to-Traditional conversion tool, but that wrongly implies
it's one-way. What you really mean is:
Description: Simplified/Traditional Chinese conversion tool
> The Chinese national GB standard defines a basic set of (around 6,000)
> characters for use with Simplified Chinese writing that does not include many
"With" (implying the characters merely accompany the writing) is the
wrong preposition; you mean "in" (or maybe "for").
This sentence is fairly long and complicated (and for instance it's
not immediately obvious that the thing that "does not include" certain
characters is the "basic set"); it would be easier to follow if there
was more of a break in the middle here. I suggest:
The Chinese national GB standard defines a basic set of (around 6,000)
characters for use in Simplified Chinese writing; this excludes many of
> of the characters in the Taiwanese industry standard for Traditional Chinese
> called Big5 (around 13,000 characters in the basic set). Unicode is however a
> superset of both with all duplication removed down to the level of detail
> described above.
No "level of detail" is described above - was this text cut'n'pasted
from elsewhere? Besides, the de-duplication doesn't stop at any
predefined "level of detail"; it applies to every case that's
considered to count as duplication. So we might as well just say:
[...] However, Unicode
is a superset of both (with the duplication removed).

Taking out the grammar (^^^) and spelling (~~~) problems and doing some
de-duping of my own, I would suggest:
This tool is used for converting a UTF-8 string which contains both
Simplified and Traditional Chinese characters directly into a single
Chinese character set.

There's no particular reason for uppercase - it isn't an acronym, and
it isn't the upstream project name.

A factual problem ("""): is it one library or several? It looks to
me like just one.
Merge the boilerplate "about cconv" lines, separate out the section
describing this package, and fix the English:
Description: library for cconv
Cconv is a Simplified/Traditional Chinese conversion tool. For more
information, see the description of the package cconv.
.
This package provides the runtime library for cconv.
(Or you could even shorten it down to:
Description: Chinese conversion tool - runtime library
This package provides the runtime library for cconv, the
Simplified/Traditional Chinese conversion tool.
but my patch has the longer version.)

Ditto, with an extra grammar error (s/documentations/documentation/);
I would suggest:
Description: development libraries for cconv
Cconv is a Simplified/Traditional Chinese conversion tool. For more
information, see the description of the package cconv.
.
This package provides development libraries and documentation for cconv.
(Or you could even shorten it down to:
Description: Chinese conversion tool - development libraries
This package provides development files and documentation for cconv, the
Simplified/Traditional Chinese conversion tool.
but my patch has the longer version.)
