A temporary fix for this bug is the command (as root)
# dkms install open-vm-tools/<version>where the version can be derived from the open-vm-tools-<version> name of the source directory in /usr/src. Note that the command uses a slash, whereas the source directory uses a hyphen preceding the version number.
