no, the shlibs file shipped by paraview, which is installed in
/var/lib/dpkg/info/paraview.shlibs, and whose contents end up in the
Depends field of packages linked with paraview's libraries, should
enforce some version constraints to ensure compatibility. I can look at
providing a patch if you want.
