I presume you have 0.9.6, right? Julian committed some in 0.9.7 which as 0.9.7.1 hopefully finds it way into wheezy in ~3 days. I haven't tested it myself, but I guess this new[]/realloc mismatch was the issue here. It would be great if you could test and/or confirm this of course.
