Package: synaptic Version: 0.75.13 Followup-For: Bug #616693 Suddenly, synaptic stopped working from the menu around the time of DebConf. I suspect this bug does need to be reassigned but the presentation is slightly different to the original bug report.
gksu synaptic does work, albeit with a different authentication window (which requires the real root password, not the user password which sudo normally wants). sudo synaptic fails, as does su -c synaptic - unable to connect to display. So this looks like a problem with pkexec, indeed, gparted fails in exactly the same way and is the only other app Ihave installed which uses pkexec. Gkr-Message: secret service operation failed: The name org.freedesktop.secrets was not provided by any .service files gksu gparted works fine too. Before I reassign this to policykit-1, is there anything else which can be determined? I'm using XFCE, not GNOME and I do not have gnome-keyring installed - AFAICT this breaks no dependencies or Recommends, therefore, could policykit-1 be assuming gnome-keyring support when it has no right to do so? synaptic is not GNOME-only, neither is gparted.
