Composition rules currently do not work with X input method any more in gtk, for instance dead_circumflex+e produces ^e instead of ê. This also happens with gtk+2.0, but not e.g. in xterm or rxvt. To reproduce: start gedit, right-click in the text area, and in "Input Methods", select "X Input Method". Type dead_circumflex and e, it produces ^e. Note: the "Simple" input method does get ê correctly, but does not take ~/.XCompose into account.
