Hi Elimar, Thanks for your reply I went ahead and tried to purge linux-sound-base but alsa-base depends on it.
$ sudo aptitude purge linux-sound-base -syV The following packages will be REMOVED: linux-sound-base{p} [1.0.23+dfsg-4] 0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 4 not upgraded. Need to get 0 B of archives. After unpacking 131 kB will be freed. The following packages have unmet dependencies: alsa-base : Depends: linux-sound-base but it is not going to be installed. The following actions will resolve these dependencies: Remove the following packages: 1) alsa-base Leave the following dependencies unresolved: 14) alsa-utils recommends alsa-base (>= 1.0.15) 15) gstreamer0.10-alsa recommends alsa-base (>= 0.9.0) Removing alsa-base seems bad as I want sound.
