Maybe it's an even better idea to make *only* the opentype variant
available for fontconfig *instead* of the type1 variant.
Having them both registered in fontconfig and thus having to remember
things like this does not sound like any added value:
And indeed with that no further installation is necessary, but
you have to select the right font!!!

TeX Gyre Schola -> otf version
