Well, xscreensaver has the option "ignoreUninstalledPrograms" option
(in ~/.xscreensaver and some system-default xscreensaver config file:
on Fedora it is /usr/share/X11/app-defaults/XScreenSaver which is the symlink
to /etc/xscreensaver/XScreenSaver.ad. The settings on ~/.xscreensaver
are given higher priority).

If you set "ignoreUninstalledPrograms" to "True", on xscreensaver-demo
hacks not installed are not shown (which may be against your desire)
and "up/down" arrow tries to launch installed hacks only. Note that
"ignoreUninstalledPrograms" cannot be changed with xscreensaver-demo
GUI.
