after starting

and the sequence
M-x gnus RET
M-x find-variable RET
gnus-init-file RET
the info line shows the message
Can't find library /usr/share/emacs/24.1/lisp/gnus/gnus-start.el
The file is not really present at the system, though there is the file
/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/gnus/lisp/gnus-start.el
from the package 'gnus'
